In a competition between several proposals for applied research projects, the Open Factory Project obtained the selection and confidence of both the European Union and the Egyptian government. It has been granted funding from the European Union exceeding one million euros over the three-year project implementation period. It aims to speed up the development of the Egyptian industry in general, especially the textile and leather industries. The work on the project began on February 1, 2020.
